Part One - Preliminaries

35speedo.jpg (49152 bytes)Here is my other project (yeah o.k basket) that will run concurrently with my 101 Scout project.
This one is my Model 335 Chief that I bought from Indianapolis. Along with this terrific correct year speedo, a front fender and wheels I have already, it will form the basis of my '35 Chief.
Its going to be pretty stock though will model it on the '37-'39 period and be using later barrels and machining them too 'square them off'. I have a set of alloy '39 trench heads (Y) for it.. The rest of the project bits including gearbox will come from stock.
Here is the initial description to me from the seller <..and it saves me some work!..>.

"The frame is perfect condition with all frame tabs intact , no welds of any kind and free from rust or deep pitting. The front end is complete , leaf spring , leaf spring arms , rocker arms ,rocker arm studs and bottom end race and bearings . There is a break on one side of the front end down tubes ( easily repaired ) . The front end seems to be straight and strong , the front-end on my 38 chief was much worse, and it's perfect now , look closely in the photos and you can see it .

The engine cases are in perfect condition and matches the frames serial number , these are the original cases to the motorcycle. The rims are in great condition and are straight with only a slight flat spot on only one of the rims , also 18 inch 40 hole Indian rims are hard to get and I could get 600.00 for the pair alone . < I have complete wheels for it >

1935 Indian 2.jpg (16615 bytes)The tanks are original to this bike and do have some dents but no serious rust , you will not need to go looking for other tanks these still have a lot of life and will refurbish well .

Other parts that are included ; oil pump , rods w/ pistons , flywheels , cam cover , clutch basket , and clutch basket inner , kick starter arm , kick starter gear , manifold , inner primary , handlebars ,brake plate , battery box , etc , look the photos over carefully there are more parts that I can remember.

1935 Indian 3.jpg (15597 bytes)Conclusion , almost everything that needs to be replaced on this chief is available on the market to make this a great bike to ride , I bought seven bikes from this old guy and have more than enough to keep me busy so I really do not mind if one goes to a good home.

I will ship everything in the photo, plus send you a set of heads , cylinders that can be milled to the early style ( all chief cylinders are the same except the later yrs. they added more cooling fins, which can be milled off ) The cam case cove which is in the photo, both rims , front hub and front brake drum and everything else that was in the photo plus cams , lifters and just what ever that I feel you can use or trade" <end>

Dscn0007f.jpg (45444 bytes)mvc-006f.jpg (40600 bytes) The rear I got from a guy I bought some nos pinion cages off through ebay. I just happened to ask if he had one!. He told me this is the fender that was used as the template for the fenders as manufactured by the current supplier to Starklite!..o.k whatever.

thanks for reading, stay tuned and look for many articles over the many months as things progress...
