By Greg Cooney, Webmaster

This is the latest Rex Hosking Racer. Rex known affectionately as T-Rex for his love of Dinosaurs as well as Indians, has built and raced several racers for several decades. This is his latest, aptly named 'Running Bird".
It has sports scout barrels and sports scout heads, 13/4 " Chevrolet valves, Bonneville cams and followers and lightened, polished and fastidiously balanced chief flywheels in 741 cases making a capacity of just over 960 cubic inches!.  Everything carefully lightened and tweaked for less weight, just take a look at the oil pump that Rex has shaved 3lb's of weight off!

It has sports scout rods, again polished to fling that horsepower robbing oil off more quickly.  In these photos it is utilizing a 841 front drum, this has since been changed to chief drum  provided by me.  It inhales through a Linkert 344 (Chief) carb that has had the idle hole closed off and installed out with Bonneville nozzle and venturi.  It is 12volt equipped and the coil is mounted out of sight on the lower cross tube between the takes.

The front and rear frame sections are standard 741 though modified from stock with extra mounts, such as the front (close-up here) and middle head stays etc (close-up here). Have a look at the other photos and you will see more of Rex's self designed and built mods more closely. The gearbox is stock 741, and the oil pump has been lightened by some 3lbs (see this photo), wheels are 18" with Dunlop MR277 325 dual profile and Metzler slicks.
Rear sprocket is a std 36 tooth, and he has a selection of 18-20 tooth sprockets for the front. These photos (click the thumbnails for a larger view) are showing headlights, kicker arm  and license plate in order to get some running in miles on the street prior to burning up the track. These have since been removed and is now adorning it's race numbers and Rex has raced it a half  dozen times without a hitch..  Rex just missed what would have been its first meet the Pukekohe races in Feb 2001.
